Statement of Faith

The Scripture

I believe “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16) and without error in its original writings. I believe all Scripture centers around the Lord Jesus Christ in His person, work, and return, including the Old Testament. I believe the Bible is designed for our practical instruction, being the supreme authority for faith, conduct, and life (Luke 24:27; John 5:39; Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11; Proverbs 30:5,6; 2 Peter 1:21).

The Trinity

I believe there is one true and living God, existing eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are distinct but harmonious in their work and activity.

God the Father is all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect in holiness and completely loving and wise. He concerns Himself mercifully with humans and as a Father to those who have become children of God through Jesus Christ, and in so doing; He hears and answers prayer (1 Chronicles 29:10; Jeremiah 10:10; Matthew 6:9; Acts 1:7; Romans 8:14-15; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 1 Corinthians 15:24; Ephesians 4:6).

God the Son is the Lord Jesus Christ became man without ceasing to be God. As both fully God and fully man, He is perfect and sinless, thereby making possible the payment for our sins. He voluntarily gave Himself as a sacrifice on the cross, satisfying God’s righteous judgment against sin. After doing so, He was literally and bodily raised from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He now intercedes for those who trust Him. He will one day visibly return to earth and judge the world in righteousness (Hebrews 1:3; John 1:14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-7; Acts 17:31, Luke 1:34-35; John 1:1, 2, 14, 18; Romans 3:24-26; Romans 8:34).

God the Holy Spirit indwells believers permanently, regenerating, convicting, sanctifying, and empowering them by being an abiding teacher, helper, and guide. He seals believers for the day of redemption, gives all spiritual gifts to them, and controls those who are yielding to Him. Every believer is called to live in the power of the Holy Spirit so that he or she will not fulfill the lust of the sinful nature, but bear fruit to the glory of God (John 3:3-8; 14:16-17; 16:7-11; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, 13; Ephesians 4:30; 5:18).

Salvation

I believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace, which cannot be gained by good works, but is freely given to anyone who repents of their sins and puts their trust in Jesus Christ, thereby submitting to the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit (John 1:12; Acts 16:30-33; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Humans

I believe humans were created directly by and in the image of God, but through disobedience lost perfect standing with God (Genesis 1:26, 27; 3). Every person is stained by sin, failing to meet God’s righteous standard, and is therefore in need of repentance and new birth which comes only through God’s grace given in Christ’s sacrifice (Psalm 14:2,3; Romans 3:10, 23; John 3:3).

The Devil/Satan

I believe that Satan is the author of sin, reason for the fall of man, and will be judged and eternally punished in the lake of fire. As the father of lies, he schemes against believers through falsehood and accusation, and is defeated by the truth of God’s Word and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 4:1-3; Acts 5:3; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:10; John 8:44; Ephesians 6; Revelation 12:10).
